DISCOURSE 2

Fear Kala and Karma and seek the protection of the Supreme Being Merciful Radhasoami and the Sant Satguru and run towards His Holy Feet.

            1. Kala and Karma are very powerful and exercise great authority in this creation.

            2. They give trouble to the Jivas in many ways and entangle them in extreme suffering in which neither the strength, nor the cleverness of anyone, can be of any avail.

            3. The different ways in which Kala and Karma oppress the Jivas are briefly described hereafter:-

(a) Divine calamities, e.g.,

            (i) Untimely or excessive rain,

(ii) Untimely or excessive hail- storm,

            (iii) Untimely or excessive snow-fall,

            (iv) Earth-quake,

            (v) Storm in sea or on land,

            (vi) Pestilence or severe epidemics,

            (vii) Death by lightning, and

            (viii) Extreme drought or famine;

(b) Worldly calamities, e.g.,

            (i) Disease, i.e., different kinds of diseases of the physical body,

(ii) Sorrow, i.e., grief on the death of dear ones,

(iii) Loss of wealth, property and household articles,

            (iv) War among kings,

            (v) Loss of life and property due to railway collisions,

(vi) Loss of life and property due to sinking or destruction of ships,

(vii) Loss of life and property due to falling houses,

(viii) Loss of life and property due to fire,

(ix) Troubles and quarrels caused by disagreement, anger, opposition and greed,

            (x) Poverty and indigence,

(xi) Evil tendencies of the mind and its inclination towards bad society and
      undesirable activities, and

(xii) Loss of life and property as a result of theft and dacoity.

            4. All these troubles and calamities befall the Jivas on different occasions, sometimes affecting particular Jivas and sometimes affecting all the Jivas generally. All of them helplessly undergo the suffering caused by these and though they weep and wail, yet nobody can help them in any way except in some cases.

            5. All people say and also believe that all these troubles come to the Jivas as a result of their past and recent karmas, but nobody can eradicate those karmas, nor does anybody tell the method or manner of eradicating those karmas. The Jivas therefore remain unhappy and helpless.
