DISCOURSES

(DELIVERED IN SATSANG)

PART III

Param Guru Huzur Sahabji Maharaj

DISCOURSE 41

Those people who, seeing the conditions of pain and misery obtaining in the world, entertain doubts about the existence of the qualities of benevolence or mercy and omnipotence or wisdom in the Supreme Being are greatly mistaken. It should be remembered that this earth is not the entire creation. It would be improper to doubt the wisdom of an Engineer after seeing only a latrine and not inspecting the whole of the building constructed by him. The bad smell coming out of the latrine, is not due to any faulty construction by the Engineer. It is the result of certain action of those who use the building. Similarly, it would be observed that most of the existing distress and misery in the world is man's own creation. The Lord created gold, silver, diamonds, jewels, cows, bullocks, elephants, horses, flowers, fruits, grain, milk etc., for man and also provided an inexhaustible stock of earth, water, air etc., but out of greed men have made divisions of land, water and air and also fixed rules and regulations regarding these, so as to enable them to exploit others and these things have brought about the existing state of distress and misery. It is no wisdom on the part of man to find fault with the Supreme Being when he himself is responsible for all improper deeds and injustices.

A natural question can be how all this distress and misery have after all come into existence. The reason is that this earth is located at a very great distance from the Pure Spiritual Region. There is, therefore, a deficiency of spirituality here and this is why the appearance of distress and misery in various forms is possible here. But this earth is only like a sesamum seed when compared to the whole universe. It would be highly improper to consider the whole Universe bad and to give bad names to its Creator, the Supreme Being, merely on seeing the bad condition of one sesamum seed. If there had been faults in the Supreme Being, the True Creator, such regularity and system in the movements of bodies of sizes varying from an atom to the Sun and the planets and such uniformity in the laws of the creation could never have been observed.

DISCOURSE 42

The Satguru is both an ordinary person and also an extraordinary personality. If anyone wishes to derive full benefit from His presence in the world, it is necessary for him to behave towards Him like a son towards his father. But people, through pride of their knowledge, status and wealth, generally behave in a clever manner and invariably the result is that they suffer from troubles and remain deprived of His Grace. In the relationship of the father and son, the devotee always remains hopeful of pardon and the feelings of helplessness and worry never enter his heart.
